American Airlines and STARLUX will begin codeshare travel on September 30, 2026. For travelers comparing Korea–Taipei–U.S. itineraries, the flight number and ticketing arrangement matter as much as the operating airline.
Routes and exceptions
| Item | Official announcement |
|---|---|
| Travel starts | September 30, 2026 |
| STARLUX services carrying the AA code | Taipei–Los Angeles, Ontario, San Francisco and Seattle |
| Phoenix–Taipei | Subject to regulatory approval |
| STARLUX network announcement | Connections to 20 North American cities |
This does not establish that every flight from Korea is covered. Check the marketing and operating airlines on each segment. Ontario and Los Angeles are different airports, so compare airport codes as well as city names.
Mileage earning
American states that AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points can be earned on American codeshare flights operated by STARLUX. STARLUX’s September 23 notice describes reciprocal earning as a future benefit. These statements should not be generalized to all JX flight numbers. American also describes mileage redemption as a future opportunity, rather than a benefit already available under this announcement.
Before paying, check your flight number, booking class and loyalty program. Use the applicable earning chart for your booking class.
Baggage and connections
STARLUX advertises a single ticket and through-checked baggage, subject to local customs rules. A baggage tag showing your final destination does not by itself mean that you can skip collection or rechecking at a transit point. Confirm the customs and baggage instructions for your itinerary.
Do not assume separately purchased tickets receive connection protection just because the airlines codeshare. Compare the ticketing arrangement, connection time and handling of schedule changes before booking.
