Plenty of Korean travellers start their hotel search on Naver.
Airbnb listings now appear there alongside hotels.
Airbnb said on September 28 that it had launched a search integration with Naver.
Naver Hotels also has a new “Shared stays” (공유숙박) tab.
How it works
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Search | Search Naver for a destination plus a stay type, such as “Osaka stays” (오사카 숙소) |
| 2. Results | Airbnb listings appear alongside hotels and other options |
| 3. See more | Opens the Naver Travel hotel tab; the “Shared stays” tab shows Airbnb listings only |
| 4. Details | Photos, amenities, reviews, live prices and availability |
| 5. Booking | You are sent to Airbnb to pay |
Searching for shared-stay keywords brings up Airbnb listings only and links straight to the Shared stays tab.
(As reported by Travel Daily and Travel Times.)
Not every listing appears
Two things to know:
1. Overseas listings only.
Airbnb stays in Korea are not part of this integration. For Jeju or Gangneung, you still need the Airbnb app.
2. Only listings that meet certain criteria.
According to Airbnb, only overseas listings that meet standards such as high guest ratings appear on Naver.
The “Guest favourite” badge, based on ratings, reviews and reliability, is shown too.
So if a place does not show up on Naver, that does not mean there are no Airbnbs in the area.
To see everything, check the Airbnb app as well.
What to compare
Having hotels and Airbnbs on one screen makes comparing easier, but compare like with like.
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Final total | Airbnb stays can add cleaning and service fees, so the nightly rate alone can mislead |
| Price basis | Hotels price per room; Airbnbs are often per home. For families or groups, compare the total for everyone |
| What’s included | Breakfast, daily cleaning, a front desk to hold bags |
| Cancellation | Policies vary by listing |
Since the booking happens on Airbnb, check the total and the cancellation policy on Airbnb before paying.
Airbnb says it also accepts Kakao Pay and Naver Pay.
Country rules still apply
Rules for home-sharing stays differ by country.
For example, if you stay anywhere other than a hotel in China, you must register within 24 hours, and since September 21 you can do it online. → China lodging registration post
